“If they see me quit it’s their excuse. If they see me succeed, it’s their reason.”

In 2016, BIO Productions was founded by Aaron Cooley with a commitment to authenticity. The company specializes in short-form content featuring high school athletes captured on handheld camcorders and edited with iMovie and Final Cut Pro by Cooley. Through the development of social content, BIO Productions seeks to raise attention to the high profile talents amongst the inner-city of Boston.

Many college recruitments in the New England region are facilitated through Amature Athletic Union (AAU) live periods. This allows coaches to evaluate multiple players in one large facility. However, the outbreak of COVID-19 necessitated the cancellation of all live period sports and caused college recruitment to stagger. Broadcast companies such as BallerTV and Hudl could not capture any events, leaving athletes with local scrimmages as their only viable option for securing footage. Poor access to quality equipment meant that videos were often low-quality, and athletes were charged exorbitant fees for filming services. BIO Productions seeks to fill this gap by providing free mixtapes to student-athletes and high-quality footage. As a freelance media page, BIO is dedicated to recognizing the talents of athletes rather than marketing them. In exchange for a free mixtape, athletes must donate to Gofundme, repost the work, and model apparel free of charge. With the pandemic ending and live periods returning, BIO hopes to expand its services from “Mixtape” representation to a respected sports and streetwear apparel brand.

BIO Productions provides a combination of fashion and sports. Inspired by his upbringing in Roxbury, Massachusetts, the brand is based on Cooley’s belief in self-expression and determination. BIO Productions focuses on quality, purpose, and storytelling in its photography and videography content and clothing range. Our team seeks to provide outreach for athletes amateur and professional careers, quality footage for desired content, and offer accessible fashion for comfort.

Since Cooley began his journey as an entrepreneur, his focus has been on growing the platform and vision of the brand rather than on its income. He is a college student at Brown University, learning about business management through classes and internships. He wishes to show young people from his neighborhood that opportunities are within reach.
